Train Accident in New York Results in Death of Commuter

A commuter recently died after getting stuck on a train in New York.

The fatal accident occurred around 6:45 p.m. The 51-year-old victim was attempting to board a southbound F train at the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station in Queens, NY when something went horribly wrong. According to witnesses at the scene, the doors closed on the commuter just as he was running to get onto the train.

Part of the victim’s clothing reportedly got stuck in the train doors. The train then started moving without the conductor, train operator or any other MTA authorities realizing that the victim was stuck in the doors. Tragically, the victim was dragged down the platform, and to his death, as the train left the station.

The victim was rushed to a nearby NY hospital, but doctors were unable to save him; he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival at the medical facility. He reportedly died as a result of blunt force trauma.

Both the conductor and the train operator were later tested for substance abuse, as is standard procedure in the aftermath of a train accident like this.

The New York MTA is actively investigating the fatal train accident. Investigators are said to have examined TV monitors connected to a camera on the subway platform. Prior to starting a train and pulling out of the station, the conductor is reportedly supposed to look at the TV screens to make sure that all of the doors are clear. Investigators are trying to determine whether the conductor of the train involved in the fatal accident checked the TV monitors prior to starting the train.

It’s also possible that other passengers may have made it difficult for the victim to get his entire body onto the train. Additionally, there is speculation that the volume of the warning alerting passengers to stand clear of closing train doors may have been too low for the victim to hear.
