NYC “Spitting Lady” Arrested, Charged with Child Endangerment

A homeless woman who is notorious for allegedly spitting on passersby as she walks along NYC streets was recently arrested. According to authorities, Hilda Barrion, a 66-year-old woman who lives on the streets of the Upper East Side of New York, violently spit on a small child.

Barrion is known by many as The Spitting Lady of 77th Street. A short time before 7:00 a.m., she allegedly approached a seven-year-old girl and spit on her. NYPD officers investigated and later tracked down Barrion near the intersection of 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue. Police spoke to Barrion about the alleged spitting incident and then placed her under arrest.

Police also arrested Barrion’s nephew, a 44-year-old man who is said to be from Argentina. While talking to the nephew, detectives learned that he had an outstanding arrest warrant stemming from a violent altercation on March 18, 2017. He allegedly attacked a man on East 81st Street by trying to punch him and then throwing a table at him. Additionally, the male suspect reportedly has a prior criminal record that includes convictions for aggravated assault, menacing, stalking, grand larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property.

Barrion has been charged with multiple crimes, including stalking and endangering the welfare of a child. Meanwhile, Barrion’s nephew has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing, and reckless endangerment.

The arrest of Barrion has been met with some measure of enthusiasm by Upper East Side residents. That’s because the homeless woman has allegedly been spitting on people for many years. Last year, locals actually filed an online petition with NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio and asked city officials to take action against Barrion. The petition noted that the “spitting woman” can’t stop verbally and physically assaulting pedestrians. Moreover, said petitioners, Barrion typically targets children when she spits.
